Say "Howdy!" to our best selling product, the Swiss Cheese Monstera!
Monstera Adansonii (aka. the "Swiss Cheese Monstera" or "Adanson's Monstera") is by far our most popular plant; not just for its distinct aesthetic, but for its ease of care.
Originating in the Amazonian region of South America, this little fella can become enormous if allowed to climb via trellis or moss pole. The holes in the leaves (fenestration) occur naturally; allowing light to pierce through the upper leaves to the shaded lower foliage.
Care: The Swiss Cheese Monstera loves bright light, but not direct sunlight. Coming from the rainforest, it thrives in high humidity with moist soil (but not soaking wet). The Adansonii is a natural climber, with aerial roots shooting out from the stem, which helps it climb on any support. Providing some form of stake for your plant will make it very happy.
Propagation: Our favorite method of propagating the Swiss Cheese Monstera is via water. Simply take a 4-6 inch cutting below a node- the place where the petiole (section between the leaf and main stem) and main stem intersect- and place it in a glass of water, ensuring the node is submerged. After a few days/weeks, you will see roots start to grow at the submerged node! After the roots have grown a couple inches, simply plant it in a small pot (2-4 inches should suffice for a cutting) with your favorite tropical potting mix, and you’ve got a brand new Swiss cheese plant!
